ULTIMATE REWARD FOR PATIENCE IN THE WOODS!
The thrill, the euphoria, the anticipation of a hunt well finished!
How many hours, how many days, how many weeks or months pass before one ever encounters such as this big guy? Always the dream to have such an experience but seldom achieved with the wily whitetail.
Often we find the large tracks of a significant Buck Whitetail but track soup is pretty thin and non-nutritious! To have been in the intercept path just a few minutes before and then to have seen the stag! Ah, there will always be tomorrow! How to plan a hunt for encounter?
To say I know how to keep patience in the Woods would be false. I am probably the least patient hunter you may ever hear about. Usually my lack of just sitting still and waiting means I missed visual contact with my quarry. How many times have I meandered about a while and then return to my first stop only to find fresh tracks and other evidence of animal occupancy! They that do have the skills for patient hunting do well and enjoy their hideouts but I have a great time and do see a lot of animals, sometimes I am stealthy enough to rouse deer from their beds and other times see the tails dancing over the next hill and gone!
The majority of older hunters enjoy the quiet and serenity of their hunting stands (as they are called) ranging from a hidden spot in the woods to fancy deer stand structures with cabins for weather protection. I remember hunting with my brother’s elder friend and he always picked a place to sit while my brother and I roamed freely. We found more trivial pickups for show and tell but his friend always had a lot of smiles when we rejoined. Always we enjoyed the evenings after hunt and learned how to cook different food from each other’s favorite methods and ingredients. Talking the evening away and reminding ourselves This is a Hunt, not a Shoot; tomorrow will certainly bring more success and more experiences; and just maybe a shot at that special long sought trophy!
