Trout Fishing for pleasure, excitement and satisfaction

How many times I have had really great experience fishing for Trout, especially in the Black Hills of SD as a teenager. 1955 we had a 1941 Ford Sedan and lived just 20 miles from Rapid City to Sheridan Lake. Two or three of us would embark immediately after school with a picnic basket organized by my wonderful Mother, an iced chest and all our fishing gear. We hiked in to a favorite bank (steep) on a north face and used our spinning outfits with #12 hooks with a single salmon egg carefully placed. We would cast out with sinker attached and let the bait sit on the bottom rigged for wafting around with disturbances. Evenings we fished for Lock Laven which are basically brown and delicious red flesh; we’d pull in the gear when nearly dark and roll out our sleeping bags on the incline and sleep. Morning we had our cast iron skillet and enjoyed bacon, eggs, and fish! Then we would fish the same rigs for Rainbow in the morning being careful to start back to Rapid City in time to start classes! The trout stayed on ice in the school parking lot until evening and then we cleaned and sorted trout for eating now and freezing for another day. We had this schedule from May 1, opening day until school was out and in the fall after school start until the frost turned to ice.
