NOSTALGIA BEFORE NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS
A GAUDY replica of a symbol of past history, yet charming and delightful for those of us who can remember the steaming behemoths of yesteryear! Early 1940’s the steam engines of the times already had niche roles in the transportation of men and materials–I will always remember the Fast Train Express providing ‘the best’ solution to ‘get there’! Mother, older brother and younger brother all bundled up in the winter, weather snowing and blowing, waiting for the passage of the Fast Train Daddy was on being ‘whisked across the northern plains’ enroute to White Horse, Alaska to help build the AlCan Highway (often referred as the Corduroy Road explaining the use of cut logs to provide a road base that would carry military traffic if needed in supporting the WWII efforts).
I digress! The train is coming and the engine is really large with many drive wheels; it passes our station without slowing in a swirl of snow, ice, and ‘whiteout’! We could barely see the windows of the train which were lighted and never sure if Daddy waved to us or not, content we had done our duty to provide him a sendoff suiting the commitment to the road building task!
We have to wonder the purpose of the ‘Cow Cather’ on the front of the engine–note how close the bottom of the catcher is very close to the tracks and its purpose is to clear debris and even live cattle and Bison from the track to avoid derailment!
2023! HAPPY NEW YEAR! We scream and shout to be sure we know what it is all about. A new beginning and we resolve to ‘think better, do better, and be better’ than the old year! I have noted there is a national agenda to improve nutrition for us all; I have been in the ‘better nutrition’ arena since the early 1970’s and believe me it had been a tough road convincing folks that there are avenues to improve health and live a happier life! Natural supplements to augment processed foods–PREVENTIVE!
IF YOU ARE ILL, SEE A DOCTOR! Doctors and medical are trained to fight disease!
Enjoying the Season, struggling through, or coping bring us to be thankful for our blessings and challenges we hope for a ‘better new year’! here are some of my favorite possibilities….
